# Advanced search
Advanced search filters are a powerful hidden feature in the **Find Papers workflow**. Use them to search within a particular journal, restrict your search to highly-cited papers, and more! Since they're a hidden feature, you'll need to read up here to learn how to use them.
# Use-case: search within a journal
Add +journal:"INSERT JOURNAL NAME HERE" to your query, like:
3D printing +journal:"Journal of Medical Devices"
# Use-case: highly cited papers
Search for papers with more than a certain number of citations using >. Like:
How can I reduce hallucination when using a language model? +citations:>100
Make sure *not* to put quotation marks around your filter, i.e. do +citations:>100 instead of +citations:">100"
# Use-case: open-access only
Add +oa:true to your query to search for only open access publications, like:
What is the safety profile of acetaminophen? +oa:true
# Use-case: papers by a specific author
Add +by:"INSERT AUTHOR FULL NAME HERE" to your query to search for papers written by a specific author. Like:
How do cognitive biases affect human behavior? +by:"Daniel Kahneman"
Nobel-prize-winning economist Daniel Kahneman is a coauthor on these papers.
The name must be an exact match for this search to work. If you can't find an article, try some other versions such as first initial and last name ("D. Kahneman"), or track down one of their papers by title in Elicit and see how their name is formatted on that paper.

Search by title like +title:"INSERT TITLE HERE"
Or by doi like +doi:"INSERT DOI HERE"
Search like this to check which papers are available in Elicit (though beware of false negatives, since a paper with a slightly different title in Elicit won't be found).
# Combining filters
Combine as many filters as you like:

# Keywords
Filter on keywords by simply including the keyword with a + or -. For instance, to filter out papers about livestock and focus on humans:
How effective is deworming? -cattle -sheep -horses

- **title** — paper title. Must be an exact match, so try different spelling or capitalization if you don't get results. Example: `+title:"CRISPR Provides Acquired Resistance Against Viruses in Prokaryotes"`
- **dblp** — dblp ID; see
- **arxiv** — arxiv ID; see . Example: `+arxiv:"2310.10627"`
- **mag** — Microsoft Academic Graph ID. Example: `+mag:"2117539524"`
- **ssid** — Semantic Scholar ID; see [semanticscholar.org](http://semanticscholar.org). Retrieve the ID from the paper's URL on Semantic Scholar. Example: `+ssid:"927a5203363fc9c8ba48599dc749cf0cc647444b"`
- **pubmed** — PubMed ID; see . Example: `+pubmed:"25315507"`
- **pmcid** — PubMed Central ID; see . Example: `+pmcid:"9204096"`
- **doi** — DOI; see . Example: `+doi:"10.1126/science.1138140"`
- **journal** — name of the journal. Must be an exact match, so try different spelling or capitalization if you don't get results. Example: `+journal:"Journal of Medical Devices"`
- **by** — name of the author. Must be an exact match. Example: `+by:"Daniel Kahneman"`
- **year** — year the study was published. Example: `+year:<1920`
- **citations** — number of papers that cite this paper. Example: `+citations:>500`
- **references** — number of papers cited by this paper. Example: `+references:>500`
- **oa** — is this paper open access? Example: `+oa:true`
