# Changelog

Check out our log of updates to Elicit:

**# 30 September 2026: Routines and more flexible research with the Agent**

The Elicit Research Agent can now proactively do work for you: monitoring for new evidence, updating artifacts, sending you summaries, and more. Just ask Elicit what you want it to do, and the Agent will create a Routine on a schedule where it proactively runs work on your behalf. You get an email with any updates, with no active involvement. This is an expansion on paper-based Alerts, making it much more powerful and customizable.

At the same time, tools that were once outside the agent (Find Papers, Extract Data) are now becoming skills inside the Research Agent. This means moving naturally between searching, extraction, analysis, and synthesis without switching tools.

**Use Routines to set up proactive work**

Alerts could notify you when new papers matched a search. Routines let the Research Agent take on much broader recurring tasks. Create a Routine directly from the new Routines tab, or from within a session. Tell the Agent what you need, review its proposed instructions and schedule, and activate the Routine when you're ready.

For example, ask Elicit to:

- Search for important new evidence on a specific topic every week.

- Update an existing competitive landscape with new findings.

- Analyze recent evidence and create a recurring summary.

- Combine several research steps into one scheduled workflow.

Read the [help article](https://support.elicit.com/en/articles/17220392-routines-in-elicit) to get more details on this feature.

**Bring your research tools together in the Agent**

We're also bringing work previously handled by separate tools into the Research Agent:

- Find Papers runs as a skill within the Agent.

- Extract Data runs as a skill within the Agent.

- Chat with papers by uploading them directly to the Agent.

With these capabilities together, stitch multiple tasks into a single workflow. You might start by finding papers, extract key data from the results, investigate individual studies, and then synthesize the evidence, all in one Agent session.

**What happens to your existing work?**

Your existing Find Papers, Extract Data, and Chat with Papers sessions will remain available. When you open one, continue the work in a new Research Agent session. Read the [help article](https://support.elicit.com/en/articles/17220397-where-did-find-papers-extract-data-and-chat-with-papers-go) to learn where your old sessions live and how to carry them across.

Your existing Alerts will continue running for the next few weeks. Open each Alert and convert it into a Routine, with an opportunity to review and expand what the Agent should do. Alerts will be officially retired on **31 October 2026**. After that date, Alerts that have not been converted will stop running. Read the [help article](https://support.elicit.com/en/articles/14757570-elicit-alerts-legacy-tool) for how to convert an Alert.

We'd love to hear what you create with Routines and the Agent's new skills.

**# 17 September 2026: Turn your Elicit Library into a shared research hub**

Your team's best research should become more useful every time someone works with it. Elicit now connects your Library, Collections, Projects, and Research Agent, so your team builds on evidence you and your colleagues have already found instead of starting from scratch.

**Start with evidence you already trust**

The Research Agent now searches the papers you have already saved. Ask it to work from a collection by name, for example "Using our 'Most important papers in NSCLC' collection, what evidence compares first-line treatments for patients with EGFR exon 20 insertion mutations?" It finds the relevant papers you have saved, reads them, and answers with citations back to the source material.

This makes it easy to test a new question against a trusted set of papers, or to continue research that began weeks ago. Read the [help article](https://support.elicit.com/en/articles/14756886-elicit-s-research-agent) to get more details on this feature.

**Turn every search into reusable team knowledge**

When the Research Agent uncovers useful evidence, ask it to save the papers directly to a specific collection, for example "Save these 7 papers to our 'NSCLC resistance mechanisms' collection."

Share that collection with named colleagues or with your whole team so they can read the papers, build on the same evidence, and keep the collection current by adding their own contributions.

Sharing a collection with named people is available on Pro and higher plans, and sharing with your whole team is available on Scale and Enterprise plans. Read the [help article](https://support.elicit.com/en/articles/14744252-organize-your-papers-with-collections) to learn more.

**Prioritize relevant sources for a Project**

Projects can now be linked to a collection, which keeps track of the relevant sources behind the work. When someone joins your team or enters an active project for the first time, they see both what the team has done and the evidence the team cares about. A new teammate can open the project's collection, review the key literature, and ask the Research Agent follow-up questions immediately. The Research Agent knows to prioritize sources in the linked collection.

Research compounds when the evidence behind it stays organized, accessible, and ready to use. By bringing agents and colleagues into the same collections, Elicit helps your team turn one person's search into a durable foundation for everyone's next question.

**# 1 September 2026: [Product update] AI-powered research is now multiplayer**

AI has enabled a single researcher to do more work than ever before. But scientific progress is cumulative, with each advance building on the work of others. Today, we're launching a set of features that make Elicit more collaborative and give teams a shared environment where researchers and AI agents can work together.

**Skills make research expertise reusable**

Teams can turn repeatable research processes into Skills that anyone in the organization can use. For example, create a Skill for producing a specific scientific report or protocol, evaluating evidence against your team's preset criteria, or ensuring every analysis consistently incorporates the same trusted data sources. Elicit also comes preloaded with a suite of Skills based on industry best practices for common research use cases. Skills are now available in Elicit for Pro or higher subscribers. Read the [help article](https://email.elicit.com/e/c/eyJlbWFpbF9pZCI6ImRnVGQ5Z2dEQU9UYXlnUGoyc29EQWFCZHN2X1BXTnFFckxPdTV0aWtFZz09IiwiaHJlZiI6Imh0dHBzOi8vc3VwcG9ydC5lbGljaXQuY29tL2VuL2FydGljbGVzLzE2NjQ3NzA4LXNraWxscy1pbi1lbGljaXQiLCJpbnRlcm5hbCI6ImRkZjYwOGZhMDE4Mzc5ZTRkYWNhMDMiLCJsaW5rX2lkIjoxNjc3MH0/63add1004b15a682131e5bfa978ce7d44d6c9f57f6012a1dc7946cfbb33c0f86) to get more details on this feature.

**Collaborative Sessions bring teamwork into the research process**

Multiple researchers can now work together in the same Elicit session, whether they are performing an analysis, reviewing a report, or deciding what to investigate next. Teammates can comment on artifacts, request edits directly on the work, interact with the agent themselves, or spin up a side thread to explore a question without disrupting the main workflow. Everyone works from the same shared context, with a complete version history of how the work evolves. This makes it easier to co-create, review each other's work, and collaborate with AI agents on the same scientific problem. Collaborative Sessions and artifact editing are available to Elicit users who are part of an organization and are on the Scale or Enterprise plans. Read the [help article](https://email.elicit.com/e/c/eyJlbWFpbF9pZCI6ImRnVGQ5Z2dEQU9UYXlnUGoyc29EQWFCZHN2X1BXTnFFckxPdTV0aWtFZz09IiwiaHJlZiI6Imh0dHBzOi8vc3VwcG9ydC5lbGljaXQuY29tL2VuL2FydGljbGVzLzE2NjQ5OTQxLWNvbGxhYm9yYXRlLWluLWEtc2hhcmVkLXJlc2VhcmNoLWFnZW50LXNlc3Npb24iLCJpbnRlcm5hbCI6ImRkZjYwOGZhMDE4Mzc5ZTRkYWNhMDMiLCJsaW5rX2lkIjoxNjc3MX0/9bd1a8a4d212edef221b4d71daf4f38daf663208c1beab9cee95428424924039) to learn more.

**Shared Projects give research a persistent home**

Teams can organize related research in Shared Projects so everyone can build from the same sessions, files, sources, artifacts, and prior work. For example, two researchers might investigate different topics, such as clinical evidence and the competitive landscape, in distinct sessions while still contributing to the same shared knowledge base. Teams can return to existing work, understand what has already been done, and continue building on it either in new sessions or by contributing to existing ones. Shared Projects are available to Elicit users who are part of an organization and are on the Scale or Enterprise plans. **# 5 August 2026: Meet the Elicit Research Agent - Rigor that powers decisions**

Over the years, we've built Elicit to automate evidence synthesis. With the Elicit Research Agent, you can now take the next step and apply Elicit to high-stakes decisions.

The Research Agent is an AI environment built for high-stakes decisions. It synthesizes evidence across not only scientific literature but a breadth of data sources such as trials, patents, regulatory databases, structured biology databases, the web, and your own uploaded data. Additionally it transforms the evidence into fully cited outputs like reports, data analyses, tables, visualizations, slides, and documents.

We built the Research Agent around these capabilities:

**A harness with reasoning principles**

Models are trained on BioDecisionBench, a benchmark designed to evaluate reasoning quality and handle uncertainty around decisions in pharma.

**# 15 July 2026: The upgraded Elicit API and MCP**

Over the years, we've built Elicit to be rigorous and systematic for evidence synthesis. We previously released our API in preview to give you access to the same building blocks that make Elicit robust. We've since upgraded our API and today, we're publicly launching it for you to use in your own apps and workflows.

We're launching three endpoints to help you in your work:

Search API: This API allows you to search 138 million academic papers and 545K clinical trials using either semantic or keyword search. Our API had the best search results (paper recall) when compared against four of the most popular search tools on BioASQ benchmark.

Reports API: This allows you to submit a research question and generate the answer as a fully cited report based on evidence from hundreds of papers or clinical trials.

Systematic Review API: The most powerful of the three APIs is the Systematic Review API. This API lets you run a full systematic review end-to-end while giving you control over every step across search strategy, screening criteria, data extraction parameters, and reporting.

Together, these let you put rigorous, fully cited evidence directly into your own workflows and agents. See the demo here <https://youtu.be/JFRrlRKXqtU>.

All these end points are available in the MCP server as well, so Elicit can return cited answers directly in Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, or any MCP-compatible client.

Early users are already building agentic systems on top of the API. Read our [launch post](https://elicit.com/blog/the-elicit-api-and-mcp-powering-autonomous-research-engines) to learn more.

To get started with the API, generate a key at [elicit.com/developer](https://elicit.com/developer). For MCP connections, you can add it as a [Claude connector](https://email.elicit.com/e/c/eyJlbWFpbF9pZCI6ImRnVGQ5Z2dEQUsya3BnR3NwS1lCQVo5bThQUExMSzBicmpoUTFMLWg2Zz09IiwiaHJlZiI6Imh0dHBzOi8vY2xhdWRlLmFpL2RpcmVjdG9yeS9jb25uZWN0b3JzL2VsaWNpdCIsImludGVybmFsIjoiZGRmNjA4NWFjY2JlMDFhZGE0YTYwMSIsImxpbmtfaWQiOjE2NDI1fQ/e0dd25b11d2074ef65a166fc27b71914218b62aeac5322620b36a58d7ff844f7), a [ChatGPT plugin](https://email.elicit.com/e/c/eyJlbWFpbF9pZCI6ImRnVGQ5Z2dEQUsya3BnR3NwS1lCQVo5bThQUExMSzBicmpoUTFMLWg2Zz09IiwiaHJlZiI6Imh0dHBzOi8vY2hhdGdwdC5jb20vYXBwcy9lbGljaXQvYXNka19hcHBfNjlmY2Y1M2Q0ZDg0ODE5MTliNjU1MDFhOTZiYmVkMDI_IiwiaW50ZXJuYWwiOiJkZGY2MDg1YWNjYmUwMWFkYTRhNjAxIiwibGlua19pZCI6MTY0MjZ9/e5182a7c51f9ae65b058f8711bf98099b7cac7c0db4b65e5269cbc2ac46fca07), or you can follow [these instructions](https://docs.elicit.com/#description/claude-code) for other clients.
