Change to Workflow-Based Subscriptions & Workflow FAQ

Edited

Elicit now tracks usage across subscription plans by Workflow. You will no longer see a paper extraction count in your Elicit account settings.

Elicit currently offers multiple Workflows including Research reports and Systematic reviews, with more coming soon.

You no longer need to worry about budgeting paper extractions across Elicit, or wonder what will count as a paper extraction or not. Running a Research report or Systematic review counts as 1 Workflow, regardless of how many papers you screen in or out.

As always, Find papers and Paper chat are unlimited in Elicit across all subscription plans, and do not count as Workflows. Other Tools available to Pro and Team subscribers, such as Alerts and Extract data, will also not count toward your monthly/annual Workflows.

Here’s how this breaks down across subscription tiers:

If you have any questions, see our FAQ below.

  • Is my price changing?

    • The price of your subscription is not changing. We’re simplifying how your current subscription works and adding more flexibility and value at the same price you’re paying today.

  • What counts as a Workflow?

    • Right now, generating a Research report and running a Systematic review each count as a Workflow. We are also planning on releasing additional Workflows in 2026, and those will appear in the Workflows section of the Elicit homepage.

  • What doesn’t count as a Workflow?

    • Find papers does not count as a Workflow. This is one of our core Tools, and will always remain free and unlimited to use.
Other Tools that do not count as a Workflow include Paper chat, Extract data (Pro/Team), and Alerts (Pro/Team), with even more Tools coming soon.

  • What if I need more Workflows?

    • Upgrade your plan to the next tier and/or to an annual subscription. On an annual subscription, you’re always able to access the full year’s worth of Workflows up front.

  • How can I see how many Workflows I have used / have left?

    • You can always see your current Workflow usage by navigating to your Account settings under your name in the top right and scrolling down to see your current Workflow usage.

  • If I edit a Workflow, does that count as a new Workflow?

    • No. You may edit your Workflow after creating it, and it will still count as just one Workflow.

  • What if a Workflow fails?

    • If a Workflow fails, it will not be counted against your total Workflow usage. If you see an error in your usage, contact help@elicit.com and we’ll get that sorted out for you right away.

  • Do annual plans still unlock a year up front?

    • Yes! Annual plans still unlock a full year’s worth of usage immediately.

  • What happens to my remaining paper extractions?

    • We’re starting you fresh with Workflows. On rollout, you’ll receive the full allocation of your plan (month or year). Your remaining paper extractions won’t carry over, but you’ll be able to extract from papers through Workflows like Research reports and Systematic reviews, and through the Extract data Tool.

  • I’m on a Pro annual plan that’s going to renew soon; how many Workflows will I get right now?

    • Short answer: 144 Workflows. As we implement this upgrade, we’re giving everyone the full allocation of Workflows for their subscription. You’ll get a full year’s worth of Workflows right now – that’s 144 for a Pro user on an annual plan – and that will reset when your subscription renews, just like normal.

  • I’m on a Plus monthly plan; what about me?

    • Same logic: you’ll have 4 Workflows. No matter how close you are to your subscription renewal date, we’ll give you the full month’s worth of Workflows right now, and that will reset when your subscription renews.

  • When will my Workflows reset?

    • All Workflow limits reset automatically on your billing date, whether that’s monthly or annual. Unused Workflows will not rollover to the following billing cycle.

  • If I cancel or downgrade my subscription, do I lose access to past Workflows?

    • No. You’ll keep read-only access to completed Workflows. Editing or starting a new Workflow will require an active subscription plan with available Workflows.
