Alerts are being retired. As of 30 September 2026, new Alerts can no longer be created. Existing Alerts keep running until 31 October 2026, after which any Alert that has not been converted will stop running.
Alerts are being replaced by Routines. An Alert told you when new papers matched a search. A Routine can act on what it finds and hand you a finished analysis: it can filter on criteria an Alert couldn't, update an artifact, or write the summary you were going to write yourself. See Routines in Elicit for how to create one and how to schedule it.
Convert an Alert into a Routine
Open the Alert you want to keep and choose Convert to Routine.
Converting does three things:
Turns the Alert off.
Creates a Routine with the same research question, so nothing stops being watched.
Opens the proposed instructions and schedule for you to review.
If you'd like to add outputs or additional options to your Routine that the Alert couldn't handle, do so now. An Alert could only return papers. Before you activate the Routine, consider adding what you want done with them: narrow it to a geography or study type, ask it to update an artifact, or ask for a written summary of what changed instead of a list.
Convert each Alert individually. Nothing is converted automatically, and no Alert is deleted.
What converting costs
Alerts did not draw on your monthly usage, but Routines do, because a Routine is agent work. Nothing is charged while you are reviewing the proposed instructions and schedule. Usage starts being charged on the Routine's first run, and on every run after that. A converted Alert that runs weekly uses roughly four times what one run costs, each month.
If you have Alerts you no longer need, this is a good moment to let them lapse rather than convert them. See Usage limits in Elicit.
Reviewing your results
Until 31 October 2026, Alerts you have already created keep working as before. New papers are added to the list as they are published and found, and new papers are marked as unread.
If you chose to receive email alerts, you'll be notified via email about important new papers as they are published.
Relevance scores
Each paper carries a relevance score. We generate them using the same fine-tuned language models that we use for Systematic Review screening, and we validated them with the help of expert researchers.
Use these scores to help you prioritize which papers to review in order to update your research.
Add new papers to your Library
Click on each paper to view more details and add it to your Library. Papers in your Library stay there after Alerts are retired, and can be included in a future Systematic Review.
Export papers
Export the full list of results to CSV by clicking the download button above your Alert's paper results. If you want a record of what an Alert found, export it before 31 October 2026.
What happens on 31 October
Alerts that have not been converted stop running on 31 October 2026, and the Alerts page is removed. Papers you already added to your Library stay in your Library.
