Organize and manage your papers in the Elicit Library using Collections. Collections help you group related research, arrange it the way you want, share it with colleagues, and quickly launch reviews or extractions.
Creating a Collection
There are four ways to create a new collection:
From selected papers in your library (right sidebar)
Select one or more papers in your library.
In the right sidebar, click Add to collection.
Choose an existing collection or create a new one.
From the Collections panel (left sidebar)
In the left sidebar, next to Collections, click the + icon.
Give your new collection a name and (optionally) a description.
From the upload pop-up
Upload papers using the Upload button in the top right corner.
In the Upload pop-up, click Add to collection and choose an existing collection or create a new one.
Uploaded papers will be added to the collection and also available in the 'All' section of your Library.
From a Research Agent session
Ask the agent to save the papers it found to your Library.
Name an existing collection to save them into it, or ask for a collection that does not exist yet and the agent creates it first.
This is the only route that creates a collection without opening your Library. See Elicit's Library.
Share a collection
Sharing a collection with named people is available on Pro, Scale, and Enterprise plans. Sharing with your whole team requires a Scale or Enterprise plan.
A collection starts out private to you. To share it, open the collection and use the Share button at the top right of your library. Select your sharing settings in the share modal:
Who to share with
Specific people. Enter an email address to give one colleague access.
Your whole team. On Scale and Enterprise plans, share the collection with everyone on your team at once instead of naming them individually.
What access to give
View. Colleagues can open the collection and read the papers in it.
Edit. Colleagues can also add and remove papers and update the collection's title and description, so the team maintains one evidence base together.
Changing who has access, and deleting a collection, stay with the collection's owner and your team admins. An editor cannot remove other people's access or delete the collection.
Sharing a collection with your team never creates a public link. Only signed-in members of your team can open it, and there is no logged-out or external-guest access.
Finding collections shared with you
Collections other people have shared with you appear under Shared in the Collections panel of your Library, alongside your own. Open one to read the papers in it, and, with edit access, to add your own.
Papers in a shared collection behave like any other paper in your Library: use them in a Systematic Review, an extraction, or a Research Agent session.
Link a collection to a Project
A Project can have one linked collection, which keeps the evidence behind the work next to the work itself. Linking a collection does two things:
Research Agent sessions inside that project prioritize the papers in the linked collection.
Papers saved to your Library from inside that project go into the linked collection by default.
Any collection you have access to can be linked, including one shared with you. Someone joining the project later opens the linked collection to see the literature the team is working from, rather than only the finished output.
Managing Collections
Edit and manage your collections through the right sidebar:
Rename or update the description: Open the Settings tab for the selected collection.
Delete a collection: In the same tab, choose Delete collection. You'll be given the option to delete just the collection or delete the collection and all papers inside it.
Add papers to collections. Papers can be in multiple collections at a time. Select the papers and click Add to collection in the right sidebar.
Remove papers from collections. Select the paper and click the Collection button at the top of the table. Click the collection you'd like to remove the paper from so it no longer has a checkmark next to it and click Apply.
Using Collections for Research
Collections make it easy to start new workflows:
Launch a systematic review or data extraction directly from the quick tools menu in the right sidebar.
In workflows from the homepage, add collections of papers directly.
Ask the Research Agent to work from a collection by name, for example "using our Most important papers in NSCLC collection, what evidence compares first-line treatments?" See Elicit's Research Agent.
With collections, you'll have more control over how you organize, explore, share, and use your research in Elicit.
